In today’s episode, I speak with emergency medicine physician Mirtha Macri and documentary film maker Ruthie Shatz. We discuss the Netflix docuseries, Emergency NYC. Previously, Ruthie and Mirtha joined me in episode 50, where we discussed the Netflix docuseries Lenox Hill. Ruthie Shatz is an award winning filmmaker. She and her husband Adi Barash are the founders of the Brooklyn based Yulari Films an award winning director - producer - writer team. Mirtha Macri is an emergency medicine physician. She trained at Mount Sinai St. Luke's Roosevelt in New York City, and currently works at Northwell Health. She is the quality director for the Lenox Health Greenwich Village hospital.

She is an osteopathic family medicine physician, health policy expert, and overall trailblazer in the fields of medicine and health policy and medical education.  Dr. Ross-Lee is the first African American woman dean of a medical school and a health policy expert. She has played a pivotal role in breaking down barriers and reshaping the landscape of medical education. A graduate of Michigan State University's College of Osteopathic Medicine, she made history as the first African-American woman to lead a medical school in the United States. Her visionary leadership has been instrumental in promoting diversity in the healthcare workforce and addressing healthcare disparities. Dr. Ross-Lee's dedication to expanding access to quality healthcare and medical education has left an indelible mark on the industry, making her a respected and influential figure in the world of medicine.
